Match Report:
Top of the table Harberts were the hosts today as New Town were hoping to test themselves against a tough side and look to get back to winning ways after two draws in their last two matches. In their warm-up, New Town were focussed, disciplined and organised...

New Town started relatively brightly and passed the ball around quickly but failed to test the 'keeper early on as Harberts organised defence held firm. The battle in midfield was a very even affair with Barley having one of his strongest games in a New Town shirt.

Harberts took a fortunate lead half way through the half as a deflected pass found a gap through New Town's defence as a striker ran onto the ball. Despite a clever lobbed finish, it was harsh on New Town's defence who had been very solid so far.

New Town were matching their opponents well and a couple of long range efforts from Watkins flew wide. New Town ended the half the better team and Miles almost snatched an equaliser in stoppage time but his effort from the edge of the box went millimetres over with the goalkeeper beaten.

The first goal in the second half was going to be a crucial one and both teams were not giving their opponents any easy chances. Harberts were looking the more dangerous with a lot of movement up front but New Town's defence was putting in a good performance, despite playing a Gooner at left-back.

However, Harberts eventually extended their lead from a cross and New Town's difficult task was made even harder. Harberts began to settle and their strength all over the pitch started to show.

New Town didn't give up and Bellworthy tested the substitute goalkeeper with a powerful volley from 25 yards. The same player then set-up Hogg inside the areas whose shot from 8 yards nearly took out someone's satellite dish in the nearby flats.

New Town brought on caretaker boss Powell in an attempt to spark a late comeback - however, Powell's performance was average at best... so that didn't help. If only the away team were able to call on the likes of Greenslade and LeDain, but unfortunately they were unavailable because they were still mourning over Jo and Dave's relocation to Chelmsford.

So, 2-0 to Harberts, but New Town gave a good account of themselves and showed that there is not a huge gap between them and the top of the table.
